Canadian Package Size Check

Measure your finished, sealed envelope. See its numerical Lettermail size/weight band first, then the packing checks that still need attention. This is screening, not carrier acceptance certification.

For retail, stamp-paid, sealed envelopes sent within Canada only. Commercial mail, bare postcards, self-mailers, international mail, customs and prohibited-item checks are outside this tool.

1. Route and packed measurements

Include all contents, protective packing and labels. Measure the thickest point, including bulges. Enter mm and g with up to three decimal places; extra precision is rejected, never rounded down.

Length and width can be entered either way round. Thickness is never rotated into the face dimensions to force a fit. If you are near a limit, remeasure or ask Canada Post to check the pack.

2. Optional packing checks

Leave uncertain answers as “Not sure.” Missing checks lead to carrier review, while the numerical size/weight band remains visible. Keep any protection your item needs.

Paper cards and comics are not automatically suitable. Rigid packs, fragile goods, lumps and all CDs/DVDs receive carrier review here. These are deliberately conservative product limits, not a blanket prohibition on Other Lettermail. CDs/DVDs require Canada Post testing and approval; this tool cannot verify that approval.

Standard handling requirements, including the specified sag test, need a separate carrier check. No bending test is requested here. Never remove necessary protection just to reach a smaller postal band.

This checker’s code calculates locally without sending or storing measurements or requesting quotes. Other website scripts are outside this statement.

Tracking, coverage and quote options

Tracking and loss/damage coverage are separate from the numerical band. Review Registered Mail options and parcel coverage conditions. Coverage is not automatic for every parcel or a guarantee of a successful claim.

Compare your actual packed shipment using Canada Post Find a Rate, Chit Chats pricing or the Stallion estimator. Check availability, drop-off/pickup access, taxes, fees and optional services. This checker gives no live price, cheapest-provider claim or delivery guarantee.

Limits and official sources

Sources checked 13 October 2026. Minimum face/thickness: 140 × 90 × 0.18 mm. Standard maxima: 245 × 156 × 5 mm, 50 g. Other maxima: 380 × 270 × 20 mm, 500 g. Minimum weights: Standard 2 g, Non-standard 3 g, Oversize 5 g. This tool conservatively reviews Other packs below 5 g. Inclusive boundaries do not provide a measurement allowance.
