Cash vs Store Credit
Compare a cash offer and a store-credit offer for the same items. Credit has purchasing value here only for an equivalent purchase you already intend to make. Enter actual CAD offers and checkout totals; no automatic bonus is assumed.
For a planned purchase, use equivalent goods, quantity and condition in both paths. Purchase totals include applicable sales tax and discounts but exclude shipping; enter shipping separately including tax. Verify how much of the store purchase can actually be covered by credit after tax and discount rules. This model treats shipping as cash-only. Enter handoff costs once for each alternative route. Do not spend more merely to use credit.
Math and limits
Credit redeemed = the smaller of the offered credit and the verified eligible purchase amount. Store out of pocket = store purchase total + store shipping − credit redeemed. Cash alternative total = cash purchase total + cash shipping. Credit cash-equivalent benefit = cash alternative total − store out of pocket − credit handoff costs. Cash net offer = cash offer − cash handoff costs. Compare those benefits, or equivalently compare each path’s remaining cash after making the same planned purchase. A negative balance is cash you must contribute. Leftover credit has no assumed cash value. No purchase planned means no purchase benefit is assigned; purchase entries are ignored in the calculation but must be valid if supplied. Future spending, investment returns, income tax, resale value, expiry and restrictions are not modelled.
